Buying tools & workwear from Plumb Supply
Power tools and batteries
Pick a battery platform and stay on it — the cost of ownership sits in the batteries and chargers, not the bare units. A brushless combi drill and impact driver cover most first fix work; SDS hammers earn their place as soon as masonry is involved, and reciprocating saws are the fastest way through pipe, timber and old radiator brackets. Keep at least one corded option for long continuous cuts where batteries will not last the task.
Plumbing and hand tools
Pipe cutters, benders, freezers, press tools and basin wrenches are the tools that decide whether an awkward job takes twenty minutes or an afternoon. Press systems have become standard on commercial work because they remove hot works and speed up jointing, but they need the right jaws for the fitting system in use. Keep consumable cutting wheels, blades and abrasives on the van — they fail at the least convenient moment.
Workwear, PPE and site safety
Workwear is specified for the site as much as the weather: hi-vis where vehicles move, knee pads for floor work, and boots rated for the hazards present. Safety glasses, gloves, ear defenders and dust masks are the minimum on cutting and drilling work, and dust protection matters most where silica is involved. Ladders, steps, site lighting and general site equipment complete the kit list for a working van.
Tools & Workwear — frequently asked questions
What tools does Plumb Supply stock?
Power tools, hand tools, plumbing tools such as pipe cutters, benders and press tools, workwear, PPE, site equipment and consumables including drill bits, blades and abrasives.
Do you sell workwear and PPE?
Yes — jackets, trousers, polos, boots, tool belts, safety glasses, gloves, knee pads, hard hats, ear defenders and dust masks.
Can I order tools on a trade account?
Yes. Tools and workwear are available at trade pricing on a Plumb Supply trade account, with VAT invoices and order history.
What is the single most useful tool for basin and sink tap changes?
A basin wrench, because its long shaft and pivoting jaw reach the back-nut behind a basin or sink where a standard spanner cannot get in.

Not usually. The tool and jaw sets are a significant outlay, so it tends to pay off once press-fit jointing becomes a regular part of the workload rather than an occasional job.
Read the full guide: Essential Tools for a Plumbing Tool KitDo I need both a pipe cutter and a pipe slice?
A pipe cutter covers most situations, but a pipe slice earns its place for cutting in confined spaces, such as tight cupboards or between joists, where a full-size cutter cannot be turned.

A burr left on the pipe end can damage the internal O-ring seal inside a push-fit fitting, leading to a leak that can be difficult to trace after the fitting is buried in a wall or floor.
