Buying building materials from Plumb Supply
Cement, aggregates and groundworks
Order aggregates by the bag, bulk bag or pallet depending on the volume and the access on site. Sharp sand goes into concrete and screed, building sand into mortar, and ballast into general mix concrete. Postcrete sets fence posts in minutes rather than hours. Estimate generously on bulk materials: a part-load return trip costs more than the surplus, and cement stores fine if it is kept dry and off the ground.
Structure, insulation and drylining
Bricks, concrete and thermal blocks and the right lintel span cover most domestic structural work; padstones spread the load where a lintel bears onto blockwork. Insulation choice follows the element being upgraded — PIR boards for floors, roofs and rigid applications, mineral roll for lofts, batts for cavities and acoustic products between floors and stud walls. Plasterboard comes in standard, moisture-resistant, fire-rated and acoustic grades, and the correct beads, scrim and finishing plaster make the difference between a fast finish and a slow one.
Timber, roofing and fixings
Sawn and planed timber, CLS studwork, plywood, OSB and MDF cover framing, sheeting and second fix. Use treated timber wherever it meets masonry, the ground or the weather. On roofs, match tiles, ridge, underlay and battens to the pitch and exposure, and keep lead and flashings on the order so the detailing is not improvised on the day. Fixings, sealants, adhesives and expanding foam are worth stocking deep — they are the items that stop a job when they run out. Send larger material schedules through the project quote form and we will price the whole load in one go.
Building Materials — frequently asked questions
What building materials do you supply?
Cement, concrete, mortar, sand and aggregates, bricks, blocks and lintels, insulation, plasterboard and plaster, timber and sheet materials, roofing, fixings, adhesives and landscaping products.
Can bulk materials be delivered to site?
Yes — bulk bags and pallet loads are delivered to site addresses across UK mainland. Palletised and oversized items are quoted separately at checkout.
Can I get a price for a full material schedule?
Yes. Send the schedule or drawings through the project quote form and we will price the whole list together.
Is thicker insulation always better?
Only within the same material. A lower-lambda board can match a much thicker mineral wool layer, which is why board products are used where depth is restricted.
Read the full guide: Insulation Types and U-Values ExplainedHow much loft insulation do I need?
Loft depths are set by the U-value target for the roof element in the current regulations. Where existing insulation is shallow, topping up across the joists is usually the simplest way to reach it.
Read the full guide: Insulation Types and U-Values ExplainedDoes acoustic insulation also insulate thermally?
It provides some thermal resistance, but it is specified by density for sound reduction. Use a thermal product where the U-value matters.
